Subterra Locating Services utilizes the StructureScan Mini XT (Mini) Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) unit by industry leader Geophysical Survey Systems Inc. (GSSI) for high-resolution concrete scanning.

High-Resolution Concrete Scanning:

Utilized prior to sawing, cutting, or coring through walls, floors, and ceilings.

Used to confirm that structures were indeed built to specifications.

Produces instant real-time imaging including the location and depth of:

-Reinforcing members (rebar, mesh, post-tension cables)

-Utilities (PVC, radiant heat, pipes, conduit, electrical, plumbing, duct work)

-Structural Properties (slab thickness, relative condition, air voids, water retention, gaps, cracks)

-Block wall inspection, historic monument preservation, and much more.

Through the use of GPR technology we are able to measure concrete thickness and “see” the precise location and depth of features in and beyond concrete floors, walls, and ceilings. The Mini also allows us to collect 3D surveys of an area and display the 3D results immediately. With the 3D survey complete, we can the “slice” down through the depth layers and see exactly where within the concrete each target lays. It is this precision that results in the ability to saw, cut, and core with confidence.

Post-construction concrete block inspection allows us see if a structure was indeed completed to specification as well as to identify any problem areas. Before repairs to block structures begin it is often necessary to see which cells have been filled and the frequency of reinforcing members.

Not knowing the location and depth of features in and beyond concrete floors, walls, and ceilings prior to sawing, cutting, and coring can lead to serious consequences to existing infrastructures, equipment, and most importantly worker health and safety.

Information gathered using the Mini is critical for building and bridge inspectors, general contractors, concrete and masonry contractors, home builders/renovators, structural engineers, residential home improvers, storm water and wastewater systems, etc.
